Approximate Maximum Limits of Pack Ice (March)


It floated somewhere above the surface of the water, between the clouds and the earth, heavy enough to warp sight yet none had seen it from the air.


A feeling today in my heart, as though a small animal had made its nest there. It has weakened the rest of my body — but the animal itself feels quite strong.


Upon this stretch of ocean, my boat tosses and sometimes is so cold it seems the wood planks have frozen. Caught an unhealthy-looking fish, and my lips are afire with salt. Icecap ahead, and one polar bear sighted. At night, the sky is dizzying & vast.
