Young Woman, Small Doctor, Cavalier
13 January 2010
“The Love Story of the Young Woman and the Small Doctor,” an excerpt from The Fixed Stars, is up at Cavalier Literary Couture, which has a lovely and evocative website. (But the URL of the excerpt does not look very permanent; do let me know if that first link breaks.)
Maybe you like it? Or maybe you don’t, how should I know? I am currently hearing mid-March for the release date of the book.

I read “The Love Story of the Young Woman and the Small Doctor,” and enjoyed it more than the site. The kites hovering at the edge of the text were a little distracting.
The young woman’s profession reminded me of The Bursa of Fabricious and the relationship the young woman and the small doctor bear reminds me of Log of the S.S. The Mrs Unguentine.
Glad you liked it, and thanks for the recommendations. I enjoy looking at the Cavalier site, but it does occur to me that it’s not the best format for actually reading a text of any length. I think they are still figuring things out. Putting together a site that incorporates both fancy-looking web design and readable text is of course not easy. My strategy (as may be obvious) is to completely ignore the fancy-looking web design side of the question.
I can’t find your story at that link.
The first link still takes me directly there. The site is intensely javascripty, so if you have any kind of nonstandard javascript situation it might break. Try a different browser?
